Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is expected to fly overseas for medical care in response to his injuries sustained after Thursday’s beating in Imo State.
Recall that the labor leader suffered facial injuries on Wednesday while being held in Imo state, Nigeria.
The NLC president traveled to Owerri on November 1 to organize Imo workers for a protest march against what they claim is the state government’s abuse of workers’ rights and privileges.
However, thugs reportedly emerged and attacked the protesters as well as union officials, turning the previously nonviolent event into a violent one.
The NLC president’s injuries from the altercation were too severe for treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, according to NLC press secretary Benson Upah, who made this statement to The Nation on Thursday.
