Mayorkun, the well-known Nigerian artist has disclosed that renowned rapper and singer Olamide served as an inspiration.
The “Cheche” singer recently shared a video of himself freestyling on Snapchat, claiming Olamide was an inspiration for his songwriting.
The former DMW signee acknowledged the YBNL boss’s impact on his handwriting but said that Baddo taught him that outstanding songwriting isn’t always in English.
He captioned the video, “Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o! IYKVK.”
Mayorkun gained notoriety in 2016 after he shared a rendition of Davido’s song “The Money,” featuring Olamide, which the singer found on X (previously Twitter).
He was signed by Davido to his musical company, DMW, where he dropped his breakthrough track, “Eleko,” and shot to fame.
Two years later, he won the highly coveted Next Rated category at The Headies which solidified his stardom.
In 2021, Mayorkun parted ways with Davido Music Worldwide, DMW.
