The Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, has upheld the three-year ban of former Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales following his appeal.
“The Appeal Committee was comfortably satisfied that Mr Rubiales behaved in a manner contrary to the principles enshrined under the FIFA disciplinary code,” said FIFA in a statement on Friday.
Rubiales had been banned from the sport after forcibly kissing Spain midfielder Jenni Hermoso against her will after the Women’s World Cup final in August.
Rubiales maintains that the kiss was not forced and may still contest his ban through the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Despite leading Spain to victory in the tournament, Rubiales’ actions have marred their success, leading to widespread pressure for his resignation.
The 46-year-old refused to resign from his position for three weeks, during which he faced increasing pressure from around the world.
