Early Life
Gwendoline Tracey Philippa Christie (born October 28, 1978, 47 years old) is from Worthing, West Sussex, England. She has two older half-brothers; her mother was a housewife, while her father worked in marketing and sales.
Growing up in a hamlet in the South Downs, she developed an interest in gymnastics and then trained in this sport. However, she closed the door in that dream and took up acting after a spinal injury. Christie attended the Drama Centre London and graduated in 2005.

One might think Gwen was always regarded as a great actress, but her unique appearance would be considered a plus by anyone in the industry. Sadly, that was not the case, and Gwen had to overcome people projecting nasty sediments upon her.
Early Career
Gwendoline was told she would probably never work because she didn’t look like most actors. Due to her unconventionally tall physique, she was even told, “Good luck with that, ” by her agent, after expressing it was her goal to be a leading female on the big screen.”
Christie’s mentor since drama school has been actor and author Simon Callow. Her theatrical career includes a performance as the Queen in Shakespeare’s Cymbeline opposite Tom Hiddleston.
Acting Work
Gwendoline’s on-screen debut came in the 2007 short film The Time Surgeon. Over the next year, the actress continued to appear in a couple more projects, including the Seven Ages of Britain Teaser, the Seven Ages of Britain, and the first 4 movies in the Ourhouse series. One’s role in this project was not limited to her on-screen performance.
It was time for a breakout role at this point in her career. In July 2011, Gwen began playing the warrior Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, the 2nd season of HBO’s fantasy television series. Her unusually tall, muscular, and plain-looking female character is a favorite amongst the Novel’s Core fane base.
Christie said she could draw on her own experiences of being bullied for her height and looks to play Brienne. A role that she was passionate about playing after reading a song from the ICE and Fire novels. She adopted an intense training regimen to play that role, gaining more than 14 pounds of muscle.

In addition to her role in Game of Thrones, Gwen appeared in the British science fiction series Wizards vs Aliens by Doctor Who from 2012 to 2013. This was another role of hers that was nicely complemented by her unique appearance as Lexi.
Another role that is a testament to an actor’s talent and popularity is that, rivaling the stature of a Marvel flick, he has a leading role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Gwen was ready to make that career leap. In 2015, Gwen co-starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Captain Phasma.
Her performance and role were both praised. However, the role received criticism for being minimal in the film, notably after she was prominently featured in promotional material.
After that, Gwen added another big-time blockbuster franchise to her resume. That same year, she played the role of Commander Lyme in the 4th installment in The Hunger Games film series titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
Around the same time, she became on the cast of Swallows and Amazons as Mrs. Blackett, but later, she decided to leave that show. Game Of Thrones will be concluded in 2019. Still, it will not end with Gwen receiving a Prime Time Emmy Award nomination for Most Outstanding Performance.
In 2021, Christie was cast in the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman, where she will play Lucifer. Despite all of this, Gwendoline starred in several films, including The Zero Theorem (2013), Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016), and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017).

In 2018, Christie appeared in 3 projects, including The Darkest Minds, In Fabric, and Welcome to Marwen. She followed this up with her role in the 2019 comedy-drama film The Personal History of David Copperfield. That year, she also played Teresa in the biographical film Our Friend. In 2022, she was cast as Jan Stevens in the black comedy film Flux Gourmet.
Apart from films, Gwen made guest appearances in several television series, including Top of the Lake: China Girl (2017), animated Star Wars Resistance (2018), and Green Eggs and Ham (2022), among others. She also made a name for herself in the theater industry, appearing in plays such as Pravda and Mirandolina in 2006 and Cymbeline in 2007.
In 2009, she was part of the three theater productions Giantbum, Skin Deep, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The following year, she played Lucifer in Dr. Faustus, held at Royal Exchange, Manchester.
Gwen followed this up with her performance at the Bridge Theatre, where she had a role as Titania/Hippolyta in the 2019 play A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
