In a recent interview with ARZ, Sarz, the Nigerian record producer also known as Osabuohien Osaretin, expressed the profound influence that Fela Kuti, the legendary musician and Afrobeat pioneer, has had on present-day Afrobeats artists.
Sarz emphasized that Fela Kuti serves as an inspiration not only to renowned artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema but also to future generations of musicians.
Furthermore, Sarz also mentioned that he incorporates samples from Fela’s masterpieces into his own beats.
He said, “Recently, I listened to Fela’s catalog and I just find things I can sample or flip. Even in modern Afrobeats, you can tell his influence on a lot of us, from Burna Boy to Wizkid to Rema, and to the generation even coming. I’m sure they will still be inspired by the legend.”
