Lionel Messi, the recent winner of the Ballon d’Or, is preparing to compete against Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland for the FIFA Best Football Awards.
The event, which celebrates exceptional performances during the 2022/23 season, istaking place today, Monday, in London, England.
The nominees for the men’s category are being recognized for their achievements from December 19, 2022, to August 20, 2023.
Cristiano Ronaldo, a previous winner of the award in 2016 and 2017, is noticeable absent from this year’s list.
Although it remains uncertain, Lionel Messi will be hoping to duplicate his Ballon d’Or success at the event, despite facing tough competition.
The ceremony will also feature awards in the female category, where notable names such as Aitana Bonmati, Linda Caicedo, and Jennifer Hermoso have been nominated.
Additional awards to be presented include the FIFA Puskas Award, best coach in both the men’s and women’s categories, and best male and female goalkeeper, among others.
Reshmin Chowdhury and Thierry Henry will be the hosts of the event, assisted by Duda Pavao.
