Josephina Itabor, better known as Phyna, the former winner of Big Brother Naija reality show, shared her heartbreaking experience of being rejected by her estranged Muslim lover’s family, despite her willingness to convert to Islam for him.
Although she was a Catholic, Phyna had embraced Islam because of her relationship with him, but his family adamantly opposed their union.
During a recent interview with media personality Hero Daniels, Phyna revealed that she eventually ended the relationship when his sisters and mother threatened to kick her out.
Tragically, Phyna discovered she was pregnant after leaving the relationship, and she informed her ex-lover about it.
However, he callously dismissed her and claimed it was solely her problem to deal with.
Overwhelmed by the shame and pressure, Phyna made the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy, as it seemed to be the best option for her future aspirations.
“I left, I went back home and found out I was pregnant. I called him and he said that’s my business,” Phyna recalled.
“I would have loved to keep the child but the embarrassment was too much. Not even one person in the family wanted a Christian and I felt I had a bright future and I knew it was going to draw me back so I was left to make the hardest choice ever.”
