Insecurity: Why Ned Nwoko’s firearm bill should be discouraged – Daniel Regha

Daniel Regha

Twitter personality Daniel Regha has expressed his opposition to billionaire senator Ned Nwoko’s proposed bill that would permit Nigerians to carry firearms for self-defense.

In response to the rising insecurity plaguing the country, Nwoko put forth the bill, but Regha argues against supporting it, fearing that it would exacerbate the existing security issues.

He questions the assurance that these firearms would not be misused or fall into the wrong hands, highlighting how even minor disagreements often escalate to violent acts involving broken bottles.

Regha firmly believes that legalizing firearms will only worsen the problems currently faced by Nigerians.

In his words: “Ned Nwoko’s firearms bill should not be encouraged; This willn’t solve the insecurity issue but only worsen it. Let’s assume Nigerians are allowed to obtain firearms (legally), what’s the guarantee that majority won’t missue it, or that these arms won’t end up in the hands of criminals? We have seen how many people break bottles over little arguments/misunderstandings, let’s not add to our problems.”
