Quincy Promes, a former Ajax star, has been handed a six-year prison sentence for his involvement in smuggling 1,370kg of cocaine.
The court ruling stated that Promes played a role in the illicit operation, where the drugs were seized in Antwerp disguised as sea salt from Brazil.
Despite once being pursued by Arsenal, Promes currently plays for Spartak Moscow.
Prosecutors revealed that he refused to return to Holland for the trial, displaying an attitude of invincibility in Russia.
This sentencing follows a previous 18-month prison term for stabbing his cousin in the knee at a family gathering.
Although he has filed an appeal, Promes has been instructed to compensate his relative.
The court stressed the significance of his public image as a role model, underscoring the gravity of his actions.
Quincy Promes is renowned for his achievements on the football field as well as his ambitions as a rapper.
To honour his football career are trophies which include the Russian Premier League Cup, 2016–17, Russian Cup 2021–22, Russian Super Cup 2017, Johan Cruyff Shield 2019, and Russian Premier League Golden Boot 2017-18.
