President Tinubu scraps agencies, merges others to cut cost of governance

President Tinubu has taken steps to implement the Oronsanye report by merging the National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA) with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in order to reduce government expenses.

As part of the report’s recommendations, several agencies have been scrapped and others merged to streamline government operations.

The Oronsanye Report, which spans 800 pages, suggests reducing the number of statutory agencies and departments to create a more efficient government structure.

President Tinubu has stressed the importance of maintaining job security for civil servants while working towards the goal of decreasing the overall cost of governance.

Some agencies merged include:

  1. National Emergency Management Agency merged with Commission for refugee migration.
  2. Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria merged with Radio Nigeria.
  3. Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission merged with Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
  4. National Theatre merged with National Troupe of Nigeria.
