Eguavoen returns to Super Eagles after Peseiro exit

Peseiro’s contract expired in February, and he has now left despite receiving a pay cut.

Eguavoen will now assume leadership of the three-time AFCON winners on an interim basis until a permanent solution is found.

Following Gernot Rohr’s departure, the former Super Eagles right wing-back led the Nigerian team for the AFCON 2021 competition in Cameroon.

The 58-year-old remained in charge of the team after Nigeria were knocked out of the AFCON tournament in Cameroon at the round of sixteen stage by Tunisia.

Eguavoen was the team’s technical director when they took a silver medal at the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
