I wrote ‘Shape of You’ for Rihanna – Ed Sheeran reveals

In a recent interview with Hits Radio, Grammy-winning British singer Ed Sheeran shared that Barbadian superstar Rihanna served as the inspiration behind his chart-topping song “Shape Of You.”

“Rihanna is genre-less, she can do anything. She’s the grail for songwriters. When I wrote Shape Of You, the person I was writing in my mind for was Rihanna,”Sheeran said.

The track was released on January 6, 2017 as a lead single from his album “Divide” and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Additionally,Ed Sheeran disclosed that he penned Justin Bieber’s hit song “Love Yourself,” despite the song initially being turned down by multiple artists.
