FA Cup: Newcastle’s 54-year trophy drought continues in 2-0 defeat to Manchester City

Manchester united 0 v 3 Newcastle United: Superb Newcastle knock holders Man Utd out of EFL Cup

Newcastle United’s hopes of breaking their trophy drought were crushed as they lost 2-0 to Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The defeat is another disappointment for the Magpies, who haven’t won a trophy since 1969. Despite Newcastle’s valiant efforts, they struggled to match the quality of Pep Guardiola’s team at the Etihad Stadium.

Bernardo Silva’s deflected shot and a second goal just before half-time sealed Manchester City’s victory, leaving Newcastle United without any silverware again.

The Toon’s supporters sang throughout the game, numbering 8,000 in the away end. Still, their team couldn’t find a breakthrough against City’s defense.

Alexander Isak’s close-range volley was the closest the visitors came to scoring.
Newcastle’s season has been marred by injuries to key players, a congested fixture schedule, and tough cup draws.

Despite Eddie Howe’s efforts to guide them to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, they have struggled to replicate that success in the current campaign.

While Newcastle’s participation in the Europa Conference League remains possible, they must find consistency and hope for results.
