Tottenham Hotspur put on a fantastic performance against Aston Villa, winning 4-0 and boosting their Premier League top-four chances.
Spurs were trailing Unai Emery’s team by five points going into the game, and a loss could expand the gap even more.
After a scoreless first half, Tottenham sprang into action in the second half.
James Maddison opened the score immediately after the break, connecting with a cross to put Spurs ahead.The lead was quickly doubled when Brennan Johnson unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner of the net.
Villa’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a severe blow when captain John McGinn was shown a red card for a reckless tackle on Destiny Udogie, reducing Villa to ten men.
Son Heung-min capitalized on the advantage, adding a third goal in injury time.
The scoring was rounded off by Timo Werner, who netted a fourth with a well-placed finish past the stranded Emi Martinez.
