Before making the decision to cancel the rally in Willington, North Carolina, Trump had suggested debating with President Joe Biden.

The rainstorm that hit the airport where the rally was set to take place forced Trump to call off the event.

This would have been his first public appearance addressing supporters after a week of relative silence in a New York courtroom.

“I’m devastated that this could happen but we want to keep everybody safe,” Trump said, his voice amplified by speakers to thousands of supporters, many of whom had lined up since early morning in hot and humid conditions.
