The Carabao Cup will be implementing changes starting next season, including the introduction of a seeding system.
This move is in response to recent controversial changes to the Champions League and the FA Cup.
Under the new system, clubs participating in European competitions will be ranked and kept separate in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup.
This will reduce the chances of big clubs facing each other in the initial stages of the competition.
Additionally, the third round of the Carabao Cup will be spread over a two-week period to help alleviate fixture congestion.
The changes are seen as necessary due to alterations made to the FA Cup and Champions League.
In the Champions League, each team will play two additional group stage matches as part of an expanded competition league table.
Furthermore, fixtures will now extend until January instead of concluding in early December.
