Man Utd risk Europa League ban as UEFA issues deadline

Old Trafford

According to the UK Telegraph, UEFA has set a deadline of Monday for Manchester United to resolve a conflict that could affect their participation in the Europa League next season.

This conflict stems from the fact that United’s co-owner, Sir Jam Ratcliffe, also owns Nice, a team that has qualified for the same competition.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, United secured a spot in the Europa League by winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

However, UEFA’s rules prohibit the same owner or entity from having significant influence over multiple clubs competing in the same competition.

Ratcliffe’s ownership of Nice and Swiss club Lausanne puts United at risk of being forced to drop into the Europa Conference League.

Nice’s higher finish in Ligue 1 than United’s in the Premier League further complicates the situation.

Unless a resolution is reached, United may face the consequences of this ownership conflict.
