How Arsenal failed to sign Mbappe in 2016 – Wenger

Arsene Wenger, the iconic former manager of Arsenal, recently revealed that the club missed out on signing Kylian Mbappe when he was just 17 years old.

Wenger explained that Monaco was able to persuade Mbappe to reject Arsenal back in 2016, despite the player’s potential and talent.

A year later, a childhood photo of Mbappe wearing an Arsenal shirt emerged online, sparking hope among fans that he might eventually join the club.

However, in the same year, Mbappe made a move to Paris Saint-Germain on loan with a mandatory purchase clause of €180 million.

Mbappe has since left PSG and signed with Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer.

“At the beginning of your career, you don’t have too much pressure at the start and they managed to persuade him to extend it by promising him that he would play more easily at Monaco than at Arsenal, Liverpool or Real Madrid.

“We can say that his parents advised him well and that he made the right decision,” Wenger told TF1.
