George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, expressed his frustration that the wage increase demands from organized labour are not feasible.
He made this statement during a meeting in Abuja with the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria.
He asked for support from the Christian community as negotiations on minimum wage continue.
He noted that it would be challenging to pay his drivers a minimum wage of N100,000.
I can’t afford to pay my driver one hundred thousand because they are four,” Akume lamented.
He decried the demands made by the organised labour, adding, “Where do we get that money from?”
Akume had previously commented that the organized labour’s actions during the nationwide strike, including shutting down the national grid, amounted to treason.
