Nigerian artist Davido, also known as David Adeleke, recently discussed the growing popularity of the afrobeats genre on a global scale.
During a panel discussion with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and Leaders in Nigeria’s Creative Industries, Davido pointed out that afrobeats artists are now selling tickets at the same level as popular pop and hip-hop acts such as Drake.
He emphasized that the revenue generated from a single afrobeats song has the potential to create wealth for future generations.
“Afrobeats Artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now one song as an afrobeat artist can change your generation,” he said.
Davido encouraged young artists to collaborate with their peers instead of solely focusing on international features, stating that when artists work together, they can produce their best work.
