Canadian rap superstar Drake is celebrating more than his country’s place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after cashing in on a massive sports bet worth over $1 million.
The Grammy-winning rapper walked away with a seven-figure payout after Canada secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Africa, a result that also kept the co-host nation’s World Cup dream alive.
Before kickoff, Drake revealed on Instagram that he had placed a staggering $770,000 wager on Canada to advance to the next Round through online betting platform Stake.
The high-risk bet offered a potential payout of $1,001,000, meaning the rapper stood to profit roughly $231,000 if his home country got the job done.
When the final whistle confirmed Canada’s victory, Drake’s gamble paid off exactly as planned.
Drake playfully calls out Black Coffee
The rapper also turned the match into a friendly rivalry with internationally acclaimed South African DJ Black Coffee.
Sharing a screenshot of his bet on Instagram before the game, Drake jokingly claimed the DJ’s confidence in South Africa inspired him to increase the amount he was willing to risk.
“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise the STAKES,” he wrote.
The playful exchange quickly caught fans’ attention, with many reacting to both Drake’s confidence and the eye-watering amount he put on the line.
Canada keeps World Cup dream alive
Beyond the financial win, Drake had another reason to celebrate: Canada’s victory secured the national team a place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Canada, which is co-hosting this year’s tournament alongside the United States and Mexico, edged past South Africa in a tense encounter to continue what has become one of its most memorable World Cup campaigns.
The result also sparked celebrations among Canadian football fans, who are hoping the national team can make an even deeper run in the competition on home soil.
Drake is no stranger to headline-making bets
Drake has built a reputation for placing enormous wagers on major sporting events, regularly sharing his betting slips with millions of followers online.
Over the years, his bets on football, basketball, boxing and mixed martial arts have generated widespread attention, with some fans even joking about the so-called “Drake Curse” whenever he publicly backs a team or athlete.
This time, however, there was no curse in sight.
Instead, the rapper celebrated both a Canadian victory and a profitable night, adding another successful wager to his growing list of headline-making bets.
