British-Nigerian rapper Skepta has publicly urged Kanye West to do more to protect his daughter, North West, after a viral moment at Paris Fashion Week sparked debate across social media.
The rapper weighed in after a video from the Vetements Menswear Spring/Summer 2027 show showed 13-year-old North interacting with an adult man.
In the now-circulating clip, North appeared to extend her hand for a handshake. Instead, the man pulled her into a hug before posing for a photograph with her—a moment that left many viewers divided online.
Among those who reacted was Skepta, who said North’s body language made it clear she wanted a handshake and that her decision should have been respected.
Taking to X, the rapper admitted he rarely comments on celebrity issues but said he couldn’t ignore what he viewed as inappropriate behavior towards a child.
“A blind man could see she wanted a handshake.”
He went on to express concern about the way some adults interact with children who grow up in the spotlight.
“My fans know I try to stay out of people’s business but damn, the way grown men, complete strangers, try to use North makes me sick.”
Skepta explains why he spoke out
After one social media user questioned whether hugging had suddenly become inappropriate, Skepta clarified that his comments were never about physical affection itself.
Instead, he said the issue was about respecting a young person’s boundaries and recognizing the form of interaction they were clearly comfortable with.
“She is 13 years old and she put her hand out for a handshake. You don’t ignore that.”
The rapper concluded his remarks with a broader message to parents, urging them to remain vigilant in protecting their children—especially those constantly exposed to public attention.
“Protect your kids people. Protect your kids!”
Video sparks conversation online
The exchange has since sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users agreeing that children’s personal boundaries should always be respected, regardless of how famous they or their parents are.
Others argued that the interaction may have been harmless, although many still acknowledged Skepta’s broader point about ensuring children are allowed to decide how they want to interact with strangers.
Neither Kanye West nor members of North’s family have publicly commented on the viral video or Skepta’s remarks.
The discussion has nevertheless reignited conversations about the unique challenges faced by celebrity children, particularly those who regularly attend high-profile public events where interactions with unfamiliar adults are often unavoidable.
