A Kano State High Court under the jurisdiction of Justice Amina Aliyu has issued a permanent injunction restraining Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other deposed Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from presenting themselves as Emirs.
Rendering the verdict on Monday, Justice Aliyu additionally prohibited the 15th Emir of Kano and the four other removed Emirs from parading as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, Karaye, along with their associates, agents, and any other individuals acting on their behalf.
It is to be noted that the Kano State Government had initiated legal action urging the State High Court to prevent the 15th Emir, Bayero, and the four Emirs of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya from holding themselves out as Emirs.
Furthermore, the deposed Emirs were given a deadline of 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces subsequent to their removal.
Nonetheless, Justice Aliyu emphasized during the verdict that the matter of removing the deposed Emir, Bayero, from his Nassarawa mini palace falls under the jurisdiction of a rent tribunal and not within the scope of the court.
In her ruling, she instructed the deposed Emir and the other four former Emirs to promptly surrender all the Emirate Traditional Royal Artefacts to the government and the legitimate Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Justice Aliyu also affirmed that the enactment of the State Assembly Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 was carried out in accordance with the provisions of Section 4 of the Constitution.
Likewise, she decreed that the State Governor, Abba Yusuf, approving the law was conducted in strict conformity with the Constitution.
