Hip Hop artist Ladipo Eso, better known as Ladipoe, recently shared that he faced discouragement when he first entered the music industry in Nigeria.
Despite being told that he wouldn’t succeed, he persevered and proved his critics wrong.
In a recent interview, the Mavin Records artist revealed that individuals in the industry tried to discourage him by criticizing his unique style of music.
Despite being advised to seek opportunities abroad, Ladipoe remained resilient and proved his doubters wrong as his songs have surpassed all expectations.
While grateful for his progress as an artist, the renowned rapper remains hungry for greater accomplishments in his career.
Ladipoe said;
“All my songs have exceeded my expectations. When I first started making music, I was told that because of my style, no one would ever listen to my songs here in Nigeria and that I should try elsewhere in the world.”
“It is human nature for satisfaction to be elusive. I feel this applies twice as much to creative people, such as artistes like myself. I am grateful but not satisfied.”
In another part of the interview, Ladipoe recalled a time he got a disappointing reaction from fans during one of his performances in the early stages of his career.
He said;
“I remember once, early in my career, I came on stage with so much energy and shouted into the microphone, ‘Who is ready for some more hip-hop’?. Meanwhile, that was a time when hip-hop music was facing serious fluctuation in its appeal
“The overwhelming response from the crowd was, ‘no’. I remember being so deflated. To make matters worse, my band started off by playing the wrong song first, which further demoralised me. It was terrible. But, I look back now and laugh. I am grateful for growth.”
