Hundreds of terrorists, criminals, and drug traffickers managed to escape from Koutoukalé prison in Niger Republic after a violent mutiny overwhelmed guards.
The prison, located near Niamey, experienced gunshots and explosions, leading to security forces responding quickly.
Despite attempts to stop the inmates, they broke through barriers and gained control of the prison.
Previous terrorist attacks on the prison had been thwarted, and the Interior Minister issued a radio message urging vigilance from village chiefs and religious leaders.
A curfew has been declared in the Tillabéri region, with the entire River Niger region on high alert.
