Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has issued a strong warning to protesters, cautioning them against proceeding with plans to hold an anti-corruption march towards parliament.
The youth of Uganda have been using social media to organize the march in order to demand an end to government corruption.
This comes after similar demonstrations in Kenya led to President William Ruto abandoning plans to raise taxes.
“We are busy producing wealth and you want to disturb us. You are playing with fire because we cannot allow you to disturb us,” he said.
Museveni, known for his firm grip on power since 1986, stated in a televised speech that the planned protest would not be allowed to happen.
Critics accuse Museveni of maintaining a tight control over Uganda, while his supporters commend him for keeping the country stable.
The president also accused some of the protest organizers of collaborating with foreign entities to disrupt Uganda.
Uganda police had previously announced that they had denied permission for the march to proceed.
