Strike: FG, ASUU postpone planned meeting

ASUU plans protest of half pay, declares lecture-free day

The Federal Government’s meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), originally set for Monday, has been delayed.

President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the postponement to reporters on Monday.

The meeting, initially announced by Minister of Education Prof Tahir Mamman on Friday, is now rescheduled for Wednesday, August 28, without any explanation for the change.

ASUU recently issued a 21-day strike notice to the Federal Government due to unresolved issues including the emergency revitalization fund for public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions for its members.

The other issues include stoppage of illegal recruitments, proliferation of public universities/abuse of universities’ laws, regulations and processes and removal of universities from the treasury single account as well as new IPPIS vis-a-vis to herald the autonomy of the universities.
