Barcelona maintained their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season with a 4-1 victory against Girona in the first Catalan derby of the season.
Despite being relegated to ten men late in the game, Hansi Flick’s side won six consecutive games to preserve their lead in La Liga.
Lamine Yamal raced through Girona’s defence in the 31st minute and scored with a precise finish past Paulo Gazzaniga to put the visitors ahead.
The 17-year-old youngster scored again six minutes later, capitalizing on a rebound from Raphinha’s free-kick to double Barcelona’s lead.
Two minutes into the second half, Jules Kounde’s through ball found Dani Olmo, who finished from a tight angle to make it 3-0.
The Catalan giants extended their advantage further when Marc Casado sent Pedri through, and the midfielder coolly rounded the goalkeeper to score Barcelona’s fourth goal.
Meanwhile, Girona found a late consolation through Cristhian Stuani, and Ferran Torres was sent off for a rough challenge on Yaser Asprilla.
