In a closely contested North London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal won 1-0 thanks to Gabriel Magalhaes’ goal.
His key header came on a Bukayo Saka corner kick midway through the second half.
The game was tight, with few clear chances on either side.
Tottenham started well, with Dejan Kulusevski forcing a save from David Raya and Dominic Solanke going close with a header.
However, Arsenal’s defence, led by Gabriel and William Saliba, remained strong throughout.
The derby was particularly notable for its intensity. Both teams received eight yellow cards, seven of which came in the first half, matching a Premier League record.
Arsenal’s vital win keeps them only two points behind Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners will prepare for a huge encounter with City next Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur suffered another dismal defeat, leaving them just four points from their first four Premier League games.
