The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has unveiled the new pricing structure for petrol across all states, following its recent purchase from Dangote Refinery. In a statement released on Monday, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye outlined the regional variations in petrol prices based on logistical and distribution challenges.
According to the new pricing scheme, consumers in Borno State will pay the highest price, with petrol reaching ₦1,019 per litre. Meanwhile, residents in Abuja, Kano, and Sokoto will see prices of ₦999.22 per litre.
In southern states, petrol will be somewhat cheaper, with Oyo and Rivers residents paying ₦960 per litre. Lagos will enjoy the lowest rate in the country at ₦950 per litre.
Soneye emphasized that petrol prices are not set by the government but are negotiated between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery. He also confirmed that NNPCL is currently paying for the fuel in USD, with naira transactions to commence from October 1, 2024.
The pricing announcement comes after Dangote Refinery refuted earlier claims that it was selling fuel to NNPCL at ₦898 per litre but has yet to release its own official price list.
