The Premier League has decided to postpone the implementation of semi-automated VAR offside technology (SAOT) until 2025, as testing of the system is ongoing.
Despite an earlier unanimous vote by clubs to introduce the technology, it has been revealed that SAOT is not yet ready for rollout.
Originally planned to be introduced after an Autumn international break, the delay has raised doubts about whether it will be used at all this season.
SAOT aims to reduce the time for offside checks by an average of 31 seconds by eliminating the manual process of placing lines on players and the pitch.
Additionally, SAOT provides a more improved and detailed visual representation of offside decisions compared to the current method.
