The Donald Trump campaign revealed on Sunday that gunshots were fired near the former president and Republican presidential candidate.
Despite the incident, Trump’s campaign assured that he is safe. The shots were heard at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, stated, “President Trump is safe after gunshots were fired in his vicinity. No further details are available at this time.”
The US Secret Service confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“The Secret Service, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. The former president is safe,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
This comes after a 20-year-old attempted to assassinate Trump during his campaign in Pennsylvania a few months ago.
Thomas Mathew Cook fired several shots at Trump but was unsuccessful in harming the former president.
