Ex-EPL footballer, Sol Bamba dies at 39

Sol Bamba

Sol Bamba, a former defender for Cardiff City and Leeds United, passed away at the age of 39. He died on Saturday while preparing for a game with Adanaspor.

Bamba, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2020, had been thought to be in remission.

The news of his passing was confirmed by the Turkish club.

It read: “Our Technical Director Souleymane Bamba, who fell ill before the Manisa Football Club match played yesterday, was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and unfortunately lost his battle for life there.

“Our condolences to his family and our community.”

Following his retirement in 2022, Sol Bamba transitioned into coaching and served as an assistant manager for Cardiff before joining Adanaspor. He had been serving as the head coach for the club since the summer.
