Usher has responded to speculation surrounding his decision to delete his X account.
Posting to the platform, the My Boo singer shared, “Account got hacked and damn y’all ran with it!”
Fans were confused when the entirety of Usher’s X (previously Twitter) activity disappeared, shortly after his friend and mentor Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested on charges of sex trafficking.
As of Sunday, all of the singer’s tweets, media, and replies had vanished from his account, prompting fans to wonder why he had chosen to wipe his profile clean, especially during his highly anticipated Past, Present, Future tour.
Questions have arisen about Usher’s relationship with Combs following the arrest of the Bad Boy Records founder.
While Usher has not been accused of any wrongdoing, he was mentioned as a witness to Combs’ alleged mistreatment of singer Cassie Ventura in a lawsuit against the rap mogul filed by Dawn Richard.
Usher had lived with Combs in New York in the 1990s when he was a teenager, in an effort to learn more about the music industry.
In a 2004 interview with Rolling Stone, he said there were “always girls around” during his time living with Combs.
“You’d open a door and see somebody doing it, or several people in a room having an orgy. You never knew what was going to happen,” he shared.
