Allow Nigerians carry guns – Ned Nwoko tells FG over insecurity crisis

Ned Nwoko

Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North has emphasized the need for the federal government to allow Nigerians to carry arms for self-defense once again.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Nwoko explained that granting citizens the right to bear arms would help in addressing the country’s security challenges by empowering individuals to protect themselves.

He highlighted that in the face of rampant security threats, allowing citizens to defend themselves could be a practical solution.

When asked if arming the population would effectively tackle security issues, the senator firmly stated, “Yes, it will.”

Ned Nwoko also shared a personal tragedy where his Senior Legislative Aide was tragically killed by armed assailants at his home in Abuja, emphasizing that if the aide had a gun for self-defense, the outcome might have been different.

“My SLA was killed in November last year and the wife said the estate was attacked by kidnappers. When they got to their door, they wanted to knock down the door, the wife and kids went to hide under the bed in one of the rooms.

“When he want to open the door, he was taken and nobody saw him again. As a matter of fact, those people who took him away have been arrested. If he had a gun or members of that estate had guns, you think the kidnappers would have the audacity to knock from house to house knowing that people are armed? That wouldn’t happen,” Nwoko said.
