EPL: Arsenal, Man Utd among eight clubs that provided evidence against Man City

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are among the eight clubs that furnished testimonial evidence on behalf of the Premier League in their legal proceedings against Manchester City concerning sponsorship regulations.

Manchester City asserted that they have achieved a significant legal triumph against the Premier League on Monday, following a Tribunal’s determination that certain sponsorship regulations imposed by the competition are unlawful.

The Associated Party Transactions (APTs) regulations were established to prevent entities affiliated with the proprietors of football clubs from intentionally overpaying for agreements with the clubs themselves.

These regulations compelled the Premier League to reject Manchester City’s newly proposed sponsorship arrangement with Etihad late in 2023, as well as a subsequent agreement with a financial institution based in Abu Dhabi.

A Tribunal has now decreed that the league acted erroneously in obstructing these agreements, as aspects of the ATP regulations contravene the Competition Act.

It has now come to light that eight of Manchester City’s competitors provided testimonial evidence against them—among which are Arsenal and Manchester United.

The remaining clubs include Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool, West Ham United, Brentford, Bournemouth, and Fulham.
