Antonio Rudiger has revealed the reasons behind his departure from Chelsea to join Real Madrid.
The German defender explained that he decided to leave Chelsea because contract negotiations were delayed by the Premier League club.
He was swayed by the opportunity to join Real Madrid, as they do not make frequent calls to players.
In an interview with The Inside Scoop, Rudiger expressed that he was in his prime and saw the potential for a move to Real Madrid.
“There was a massive period of no talks, sometimes you have in your mind okay let’s not get injured but I didn’t do this, I was still playing at my best.
“I also knew in my mind that the Champions League we won could be my ticket to the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid does not come knocking often,” he said.
He also emphasized in the Players’ Tribune that the contract discussions were a significant factor in his decision to leave.
While acknowledging that sanctions played a role in his departure, Rudiger maintained that he had no ill feelings towards Chelsea.
