The staff of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, have initiated an indefinite nationwide strike as of Monday, consequent to the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum presented to the agency’s administration.
This development follows a meeting convened on Friday, October 4, 2024, regarding unresolved matters.
The demands put forth by the staff encompass a comprehensive review and reevaluation of the 2024 promotion examination results, which currently reflect a pass rate of a mere 35 percent.
The union is additionally advocating for a minimum threshold of 80 percent for this year’s and subsequent promotion examinations.
Another paramount demand includes the resolution of salary arrears for employees who were engaged in 2022.
In a statement duly signed by the Secretary of the association, Ejor Michael, the union has accused the management of NAFDAC of disregarding their grievances, characterizing the lack of action as intolerable.
The employees participating in the strike, in accordance with the directives of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), have been mandated to cease all services and vacate their offices.
They have also been instructed to remove their personal belongings as the strike commences.
The workers have pledged to persist in their strike action until all demands articulated in their communiqué are satisfactorily addressed.
