US President Joe Biden has expressed his belief that Nigeria should have a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
He also stated his commitment to seeing Africa have two permanent seats on the council.
Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed that Biden made these comments during a phone call with President Bola Tinubu.
The call took place in the context of the recent release of Binance’s head of finance crime compliance.
The US President reportedly questioned why Nigeria should not have a permanent seat at the UN Security Council, highlighting the ongoing push for fair representation for Africa in the council.
Each year, the UN General Assembly elects five new members for a two-year term from different geographical zones.
“The two leaders also discussed the issue of permanent seats, and the United Nations security council and President Biden once again assured that the United States is committed to seeing Africa having two permanent seats,” Tuggar added.
