Soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, based in Ohafia, are reportedly engaged in a violent confrontation with unidentified assailants in Mbata, located in Umuchima village, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State.
According to reports from The Nations, more than 15 Hilux vehicles and armored personnel carriers arrived in Umuchima village at approximately 6 a.m., with the objective of targeting suspected militants.
The assailants have allegedly established a camp near a river that delineates the boundary between Abia State and the Mbaise region of Imo State.
As per the report, military personnel have secured critical junctions leading into and out of the village, while others are actively engaging the assailants in adjacent forested areas.
As of the time of this report, gunfire continues to be heard, and there have been no official statements released by the Nigerian Army or the Abia State Government.
