Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign appear to be entangled in the ongoing turmoil surrounding VULTURES 1.
The album has experienced a plethora of delays and controversies.
The majority of these issues originated from West’s provocative behavior and contentious public remarks. However, upon its release, VULTURES 1 became embroiled in a lawsuit initiated by the estate of disco legend Donna Summer concerning an unauthorized sample.
This legal matter was resolved in June, yet it now appears that another lawsuit has emerged in its stead. Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign are currently facing litigation over yet another unauthorized sample.
The sample in dispute pertains to the track “Fuk Sumn.”
The copyright infringement lawsuit has been lodged by a collective of artists: Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky, and Kilo G. According to TMZ, the lawsuit asserts that the sample utilized at the commencement of “Fuk Sumn” was appropriated from DJ Squeeky’s composition “Drank a Yak (Part 2).”
Criminal Manne is the performer who delivers the lines “Smokin’ on a junt, with my n**gas drinkin’ O.E.” Subsequently, Kilo G’s work is sampled further along the track. The trio contends that they made attempts to engage in negotiations with Alien Music when “Fuk Sumn” was initially released.
Regrettably, in May, Kanye West terminated a significant portion of his workforce, resulting in the negotiations failing to materialize.
Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky, and Kilo G assert that they have not received any royalties, notwithstanding the evident sampling of their work.
Furthermore, they maintain that representatives of Kanye West have not communicated with them for several months. The trio is pursuing damages for the delays they believe they have endured since February 2024. This lawsuit represents the latest legal challenge faced by West in recent months.
