Liverpool made a spectacular turnaround at Anfield, defeating Brighton 2-1 to ascend to the top of the Premier League.
The result was sweetened by setbacks for title contenders Manchester City and Arsenal.
Brighton dominated the first half, with Ferdi Kadioglu’s spectacular 16-yard strike giving them the lead. However, Liverpool’s fortunes turned in the second half.
Cody Gakpo equalized with a surprising left-wing cross that sailed directly into the net, his third goal against Brighton in four days. Mohamed Salah then sealed the comeback with a breathtaking curled shot into the far corner.
The win was all the more impressive given Brighton’s strong performance, which had sometimes silenced the Anfield crowd. Caoimhin Kelleher’s crucial save from Georginio Rutter’s effort proved pivotal.
Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has now won 13 of 15 games. They sit two points clear of Manchester City, who surprisingly lost to Bournemouth, and Arsenal, who fell to Newcastle.
