Bournemouth breaks Man City’s unbeaten run in the league with a narrow 2-1 win

Bournemouth breaks Man City’s unbeaten

Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson scored as Bournemouth won their first-ever victory over Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries, boosted by previous victories over Aston Villa and Arsenal, got off to a strong start. Ederson had to make two saves to stop Semenyo and Justin Kluivert within two minutes.

Bournemouth’s persistent pressing paid off in the ninth minute when Semenyo finished Milos Kerkez’s byline cut-back, giving the hosts an early advantage. City struggled to respond, failing to register a single shot on goal in a disappointing first half.

Returning from the break confidently, Bournemouth almost doubled their lead immediately, but Ederson reacted quickly to block Evanilson’s effort. Evanilson soon made amends, however, slotting Kerkez’s low cross into the bottom corner.

Bournemouth could have added a third, but Adam Smith missed an open goal after Marcus Tavernier’s shot struck the post. City’s first shot on target came in the 80th minute when Erling Haaland’s tame volley was easily saved.

Josko Gvardiol’s header two minutes later brought City back into contention, but they couldn’t find an equalizer. With Liverpool beating Brighton, City slipped to second, while Bournemouth moved up to eighth in the Premier League table.
