The Kremlin has stated that it will not be immediately congratulating Donald Trump on his election victory due to ongoing tensions and a strained relationship with the United States. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, confirmed that Moscow still considers the U.S. to be an “unfriendly country” due to their support of Ukraine in the conflict.
Peskov mentioned that Russia is keeping a close eye on statements and developments from American politicians, but the current state of relations between the two countries does not give much reason for optimism. The Kremlin emphasized that the U.S. is involved in a war against Russia, directly and indirectly.
“The situation between our two nations is such that it’s hard to imagine it getting any worse,” he stated.
Despite congratulations from leaders worldwide on Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris, the Kremlin’s response remains cautious and restrained. While Trump had previously aimed to improve U.S.-Russia relations in his first term, it is uncertain how his second non-consecutive term could impact the current situation.
