Paris 2024: Ofili awarded $5,000 Compensation for Non-Registration

Favour Ofili qualifies for Women’s 200m final

Nigeria’s sprint star, Favour Ofili, has been awarded $5,000 in compensation for the emotional distress and disappointment caused by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) failing to register her for the 100 meters event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This decision was outlined in a report by an Investigative Committee set up by former Minister of Sports, Senator John Enoh.

The report, given the green light for publication by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), was presented to Senator Enoh on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in the presence of the former ministry’s permanent secretary, Mrs. Atinuke Watti.

Originally scheduled for release on Friday, October 25, 2024, the report’s publication was postponed due to Senator Enoh being reassigned to a different ministry by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Upon assuming office the prior week, Dr. Shehu Dikko approved the release of the report following a request from the Committee Chairman, Dr. Mumini Alao.
