Ruud van Nistelrooy has resigned from his role at Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s appointment as permanent head coach.

Van Nistelrooy, a former United striker and club legend, took over as interim head coach in late October after Erik ten Hag left.

Van Nistelrooy’s four-game unbeaten streak ended with Sunday’s 3-0 triumph over Leicester City.

He led United to a win over Leicester City and a draw against Chelsea.

Despite his success, van Nistelrooy will not be part of Amorim’s staff.

Manchester United praised van Nistelrooy’s contributions in a statement: “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

“We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.”

Van Nistelrooy’s departure comes as Amorim takes charge, with his first match scheduled for November 24 against Ipswich Town.

Van Nistelrooy, who previously managed PSV Eindhoven, scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for United and remains a celebrated figure in the club’s history.

Following the Leicester win, United head into the international break 13th in the Premier League, just four points shy of Champions League qualification spots.
