Ademola Lookman has articulated that his choice to represent Nigeria has been a significant advantage for him.
Lookman was born in Wandsworth, Greater London to parents of Nigerian descent.
The 27-year-old previously represented England at the youth level, achieving victory at the FIFA U-20 World Cup with the Young Three Lions in 2017.
However, the winger made the decision to change his international allegiance to Nigeria in February 2022, subsequently making his Super Eagles debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana one month later.
Lookman had the opportunity to represent Nigeria for the first time in a major tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year.
The former Leicester City player made a substantial impact at the tournament, netting three goals and providing one assist across seven appearances.
The skillful winger was also selected for the Team of the Tournament.
Lookman expressed that representing Nigeria has been an extraordinary experience for him.
“It was massive for me because that was really a big turning point in my career. Ever since I’ve put on the Super Eagles jersey, it has been fruitful,” he told Sporty TV.
“We have been able to achieve together as a team and we are still growing as a team. The togetherness of the team is something that is very special within the squad.
“We showed that in the last AFCON, we got to the final but unfortunately we came up a bit short.”
