Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi, a media celebrity, has called out two popular pastor’s daughters for retaining their father’s name even after marriage.
She notably targeted the children of prominent Nigerian pastors David Oyedepo and Paul Eneche for keeping their fathers’ names after marriage.
Gbemi questioned the double standard, highlighting how women from less affluent backgrounds are often expected to adopt their husbands’ names as a sign of submission.
She wondered why the same expectation does not apply to women from more influential families.
“I wan find small trouble Love Oyedepo became – Love Oyedepo Ogah (added her husband’s name) Deborah Eneche became – Deborah Eneche Hawthorn (added her husband’s name). But if another pesin do am, e go turn ‘she’s not submissive’. Abii na only poor people suppose dey submissive’?
