The federal government has renamed the University of Abuja after General Yakubu Gowon, a former military head of state.
The institution will now be called as Yakubu Gowon University. Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced the name change immediately after the penultimate Federal Executive Council meeting for 2024, presided by President Bola Tinubu.
He clarified that the decision was made in acknowledgement of Gowon’s great contribution to nation development.
