Kylian Mbappe has admitted to his troubles following another missed penalty that contributed to Real Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Athletic Club at San Mames.
This is the second week in a row that the French star has failed to convert from the spot, following his saved penalty in a 2-0 Champions League loss to Liverpool.
Julen Agirrezabala’s save for Athletic Club proved decisive, piling more pressure on Mbappe, who has had a disappointing start at Real Madrid.
Following the match, manager Carlo Ancelotti publicly praised his player, underlining the significance of support during difficult times.
Mbappe also addressed the situation through an Instagram post, stating:
“Bad result. A big mistake in a match where every detail counts.
“I take full responsibility for it. A difficult moment, but it’s the best time to change this situation and show who I am.”
Real Madrid will face Girona next on Saturday night, offering the Frenchman another opportunity to prove himself.
